Jets Coach Glenn Confident Kris Boyd Will Make a Full Recovery After New York City Incident

Jets head coach Aaron Glenn mentioned that he recently spoke with cornerback Kris Boyd and feels certain the athlete will recover well after being shot in midtown Manhattan early Sunday morning.

Glenn shared that Boyd, who is hospitalized, was “positive” during a recent discussion.

“That’s what eases my mind, is that he’s feeling positive,” Glenn stated on Wednesday. “His wife and his kid, they’re in good spirits and he will walk away from this just fine.”

Glenn was unsure when Boyd would leave the medical facility, where he has been listed as critical but stable.

“Don’t know just yet,” Glenn remarked. “But I will say this, from our conversation, he seemed very positive. Furthermore, that puts my mind at ease, because of his outlook and his words reflect that optimism.”

NYPD released video stills Monday of a suspect in the attack on the player. What prompted the attack is currently under review and authorities said it is unknown if Boyd was targeted. There were no additional victims were reported.

The incident occurred around 2 a.m. on Sunday morning about halfway between Madison Square Garden and Times Square. Boyd, twenty-nine, was taken to a local hospital after being shot in the abdomen, according to authorities. The perpetrator got away.

Glenn shared Boyd has been in his thoughts “constantly” since he heard about the shooting. The coach said that Boyd and his wife just had a baby.

“What immediately crossed my mind, he recently became a father,” Glenn said. “My mind went to his family, considering his child and my priority is his well-being. That was my main concern.
“There’s a process to this, I’ll keep private, but I am pleased that his outcome looks very positive.”

Boyd hasn’t played in the present campaign, his first with the Jets, after going on the season-ending injured reserve list on 18 August with a shoulder injury that needed an operation.

Boyd came to New York as a free agent in spring and was anticipated to become an important component of an improved special teams group under the coach and special teams coordinator Chris Banjo. However, he got hurt during a training camp practice on early August and had to be helped off.

Boyd has stayed involved with the squad all season long while healing from his surgery.

“He remains involved with our activities,” Glenn said. “Certainly, he is a regular at our matches. He is completely involved. Given his status as a special teams standout, he’s done a really good job of helping the other guys we have.”

Boyd, hailing from the Lone Star State, spent his initial four years with the Vikings after his selection in the later rounds by the Vikings out of the University of Texas in the 2019 draft. He joined the Arizona Cardinals in last year and moved to Houston’s squad after that. Boyd signed a one-year contract worth $1.6m with the Jets in March.
