Manchester United Poised to Secure Germany Forward Lea Schüller away from the Bavarian Giants

Manchester United are finalising sealing the deal for prolific German forward Lea Schüller on a permanent transfer from the Frauen-Bundesliga champions.

A Major Signing for the WSL Side

The forward, with six months left on her deal, is known as a consistent goal-getter for both club and country. She has netted over 100 goals for Bayern and found the net 54 times in 82 caps for her country. Her arrival will be seen as a marquee coup for the WSL team.

Departure from Bayern has been anticipated since she was seen fighting back tears while thanking the club's supporters following a victory over Bayer Leverkusen recently.

It was reported in late December that the German women's top flight was set to lose one of its leading strikers. Per multiple sources, the formalities for the move have now been completed.

Consistent Goal Threat to Strengthen United's Forward Line

The experienced striker's arrival should represent a major boost to United’s forward line. She has been remarkably reliable with her finishing in the Bundesliga.

  • Over seven straight seasons, up to and including the most recent campaign, she reached at least a double-digit tally of league goals.
  • She won the top scorer award in 2021-22 season with a haul of 16 goals.

Building Momentum at Carrington

The acquisition of Schüller’s signature comes at a time when United seem to be building momentum.

Recent performances feature securing a place in the Champions League knockout phase playoffs as a seeded team and a victory in the Conti Cup quarter-finals.

In the transfer market, the mid-season window has brought additional business:

  1. The signing of Swedish right-back Hanna Lundkvist on a multi-year deal.
  2. The contract extension for Japanese midfielder Hinata Miyazawa, a popular figure since arriving in 2023.

Regarding Miyazawa’s new deal, a senior figure commented: “She has become a critical component to the way we play. Her understanding of the game and technical ability allows her and the team to control and dictate play from the middle of the park.”

The new defender, having arrived from a club in the NWSL, added: “You can sense how much they [United] have grown in the last few years, playing in one of the strongest leagues in the world and performing in the Champions League.”
