New York Launches Online Platform for Public to Submit ICE Videos Following Detentions of Four US Citizens

New York state attorney general has introduced a fresh reporting form urging citizens to provide photos and videos of immigration raids throughout New York. This move comes just a shortly after a high-profile ICE raid shook NYC's Chinatown, triggering mass outcry.

US Citizens Detained During Raid

A US congressman revealed during a midweek briefing that four American citizens were detained and detained for "almost a full day" after the previous day's operation. Demonstrations occurred in New York on consecutive evenings.

"All New York residents has the right to exist without intimidation," the attorney general declared in a statement.

"For those who saw and recorded ICE activity during the raid, I encourage you to share that material with my office. We are pledged to assessing these reports and evaluating any wrongdoings."

Submission Process

The portal offers fields to send images and video footage of the raid, along with a field to indicate where it occurred. When submitting, submitters must mark a checkbox that confirms that "the attorney general might employ any evidence provided in a public document, including in a lawsuit or public report."

Details of the ICE Action

The Manhattan operation, which witnesses say included over fifty ICE personnel, happened in a famous neighborhood of the city where counterfeit products and other goods are sold daily widely – typically to visitors.

Footage of Tuesday's raid reveal multiple masked and armed personnel zip-tying and detaining a man, and shoving away bystanders. Crowds of New Yorkers pursued the personnel through the streets. An military-style transport was observed rolling through the urban roads.

Official Reactions

At a midweek briefing organized with the New York immigrant rights coalition, Representative Goldman, a Democratic representative, announced that four nationals were detained by ICE for about 24 hours and that there were "no situations where nationals should be detained for no reason." He said the individuals were released on Wednesday with no legal action taken.

"There's a clear purpose here. It is not focused on deporting lawbreakers," Goldman said. "This constitutes a military-style operation to incite tension. It is purely a justification to generate turmoil for the government to utilize the military to prevent unrest that they have created."

Extensive Outcry

Fury over the immigration operation quickly spread – each of the mayoral candidates denounced the incident, including Governor Kathy Hochul.

"Yet again, the current administration opts for oppressive displays that generate terror, rather than security. It needs to cease," one mayoral candidate declared.

NYC advocacy organizations spoke out also.

"Federal officers raided Manhattan's Chinatown with military-style vehicles, masked agents and riot gear to focus on local sellers attempting to earn income. This raid had no connection to public safety and everything to do with intimidating residents and areas," stated the leader of a advocacy group.

Official Guidelines

Agency rules prohibits the holding of citizens and the bureau has said it will not take into custody American nationals. Nevertheless, external research has discovered that over 170 citizens have been detained unlawfully by immigration authorities since the beginning of the present government.

Ongoing Trend

Enforcement actions have been rising in frequency in NY and nationwide lately.

A recent action in midtown Manhattan was the first known raid on an immigrant shelter of the existing leadership. Rallies targeting ICE are ubiquitous along with accusations of violence and inhumane treatment.

Latest, a letter filed by legal entities claimed medical neglect of women with child in detention centers.
