Slot Insists He Is Secure and Retains The Club's Backing After PSV Defeat
The Liverpool head coach admitted that it's natural for concerns to be asked about his future after a further convincing loss against PSV Eindhoven.
Liverpool endured their 9th loss in twelve matches, marking the club's poorest streak after being relegated in the 1953-54 season.
They were outplayed by the Dutch league champions on a tough evening at their home ground.
“I feel secure, things are alright, I have got plenty of support from management,” the coach commented.
“It would be nice to change things and get a victory of course but if you are working as a coach and not doing well then it's typical that questions are asked.”
He continued, “I accept my position. This isn't the first time I’ve been in a difficult position but it is about time that we changed our fortunes.”
Talks with Liverpool Hierarchy
When asked to provide details on his discussions with the club's leadership, the head coach said:
“We communicate frequently. They assist to the team and for me and we have those conversations but they aren't calling me all the time of the day to say they back me.”
He mentioned, “In the normal exchanges I sense the confidence. However I've not talked to them since this game so far so we'll see.”
Familiar Problems and Player Response
The manager lamented recurring shortcomings from his team in their Champions League loss, namely missed opportunities and leaking goals.
Meanwhile, midfielder Curtis Jones was more direct in his view of the current crisis.
“I don’t have the solutions. Honestly, I don’t. I'm telling that to all,” Jones remarked.
“It is unacceptable. I don’t even have to wait to consider it. I’m past feeling anger inside. I’m at the point currently where I simply lack the words.”
He added, “It’s hard because I play for the team I support. I'm a supporter, and I've watched Liverpool since I was young.”
“In recent memory, I've not seen a Liverpool team enduring a spell like this with outcomes this poor.”
He finished, “However we still have the emblem on our shirts. And as long as that badge is removed, we’re always going to fight.”
“Our aim is to bring this squad return to its rightful place, prove again what this club is about and why it's known as the greatest side in the planet.”
“However currently, things are bad and it needs to change.”
