Vince Zampella, the mind behind the wildly popular first-person shooter Call of Duty, has passed away in a traffic collision in the state of California at the age of 55.

The tragic news was verified by Electronic Arts, the parent company of Respawn Entertainment, the development studio that he helped create.

The celebrated video game developer passed away following his vehicle was involved in a crash and caught fire on a highway in the Los Angeles area on Sunday, according to.
